It was hard to sit and concentrate.

I'm eager to see your top ten (or twenty!). Love comparing books with you.

Reading keeps me sane...and keeps me human. We need to make time. Just finished IN A DARK DARK WOOD. Have you read it? You often beat me to mysteries.

Happy Reading!Fourth Generation Teacherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16700328444005416956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7633935880322794283.post-79760861656403541022017-01-04T20:54:55.189-06:002017-01-04T20:54:55.189-06:00I LIVED thru Watergate...remember Dean and the boy...I LIVED thru Watergate...remember Dean and the boys. I might tackle this after giving myself a rest from political books. RATF*CKED just about did me in! First, stop be...Hey, Reading Buddy Extraordinaire.

First, stop beating yourself up. I set my 2016 Reading Goal at 125 books (something I've done twice in the past). I was ahead of the game until September. Then, I started reading on-line articles, tweets, blogs and and endless stream of political posts.

I failed to muster up the patience to devour a novel, to track a storyline, to absorb the organized information of a top-flight non-fiction volume. I was too...nervous? attention-deficit (the adjective)? And of course, after November 8, things went from bad to worse. I ended up with 105 books. One of which was David's, which I'll be reviewing in my blog.

Now--that's two books a week. I would be filled with admiration for any American who read one book per week, faithfully, no matter what kind of books they were reading. That's a healthy exposure to ideas, challenges, moral-of-stories, creative language, yada yada. You know, growth.

SO thanks for helping build my 2017 reading list. Hope I can do the same for you. Set your sights lower. Quality over quantity. Hope you have 20 books on your Top Ten next year.Nancy Flanaganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00047575960944913289noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7633935880322794283.post-18105096732155327392017-01-03T23:06:13.796-06:002017-01-03T23:06:13.796-06:00John Dean's book on Watergate sheds a lot of l...John Dean's book on Watergate sheds a lot of light, even if you thought you knew a lot about Watergate and Nixon. It's self-serving, of course, but Dean goes through every Nixon tape that related to the entire scandal. I always wanted to listen to those tapes - ever since Nixon tried to keep them secret (or erased) - and now I don't need to. They would have made little sense to people who weren't as connected as Dean.
All that being said, if Watergate isn't an interest of yours, you'll definitely want to skip it....it would be waaay TMI.
(I don't know why your site takes my Google profile and calls me OTAC, but this is Kathy.)OTAChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11392627868517540786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7633935880322794283.post-18193253105073512372017-01-02T19:20:04.007-06:002017-01-02T19:20:04.007-06:00YAL is still my favorite, but since I've retir...YAL is still my favorite, but since I've retired, I've lost the connection...I DO volunteer at my Grands' school libraries, and that lets me see what kids are reading. I'm so impressed with Sheinkin's scholarship....his deep research. I'd be using his books in the classroom a lot if I had the chance. I heard Jason Reynolds speak at NCTE in November and was wowed by him. Young adult books haven't been a priority for me as they are beyond my students and, mostly, my daughters. That's changing as my oldest keeps getting older so I'll have to pay more attention. And, the Hamiltome, a family favorite. We read it together, listening to the songs and pausing for the footnotes. It was absolutely amazing. Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04725549451973770515noreply@blogger.com
